We are having a very early spring. Yesterday, my husband and I went for a little walk and here is some of what we saw…

LOVE the colors out there!!! With all the sights…sounds…smells…by far my favorite time of year!

Hope your Friday is as sweet as mine!

In the middle of winter…a little sign of spring shows up in our house…TULIPANER!

I will never claim to have a green thumb…both my grandmothers have at least two each!!! At my house…if they survive…I’m doing something right…if not…well…it wasn’t the right kind of plant for me!

In October or November…my mind can’t remember that far back…I planted a bunch of bulbs. I would look and look and look for buds, but nothing…for the longest time. Then during Christmas sometime they finally showed up! They have been millimetering up (NO inching here!) out of the pot. I’m sure the quality of dirt isn’t the best…as well as many other things, but HEY!!!…they’re growing!!! Jippi! It is a miracle every time a flower buds out. I finally have ONE that’s been showing us the miraculous wonders of the plant world.

As much as I am enjoying winter, now that we finally have some snow, I am excited already about spring…my very favorite time of year…that is just a few months away! I hope this brings you a little joy as well!

Matthew made a fire the size of a semi last night! We invited family and friends to come and join in the fun!

It’s a little hard to see how amazingly high the flames went, because it was so dark…no reference points. Check out the cool images I did catch.

We hope to repeat this again next year…hopefully with LOTS of snow around!

Yesterday was such a beautiful day! I’ve been carrying around a nasty sinus infection for a few weeks now and it felt sooooooooo great to be outside feeling slight kisses from the sun on my face. Of course it is raining and “cold” again now…and…hold on to your underwear…snow is expected this weekend! YIKES! Oh well, I suppose we go through this every spring. Still…there is just something magical about all the wonderful transformations taking place in nature.

Jakob had invited the neighbor kids over to check out what they could find in the pond just below our house. Of course he could not go “unparented”, so I grabbed my camera and tagged along. It was so sweet to see how they cleaned out every inch along the edge of the water looking for anything that moved. Every now and then I would hear shrieks of joy…and “come and look what we caught”! So sweet!

Check out the itty-bitty frog I captured. I was taking photos of the kids and suddenly heard this loud frog sound. We can hear them from our house and I always imagined that they were quite large. No bigger than my thumb!!! When they make their croaking sound they blow up their chest like a balloon. It was really crazy to get so close to the “action”.

Here are some of the images I enjoyed “catching”!

Yes! Spring is here!

Outside it is a very typical early spring day…pouring rain, thunder and lighting. Then there is the cheer-you-up ANYTIME plant in our kitchen. I totally LOVE orchids and their beautiful design.

Let’s not forget the hot pink one’s that have been blooming for me since…hm…a very long time now. Just when the blooms would fall off…another shoot would start and pretty soon…more beautifulness in the kitchen.

Here is a shot to brighten your day! Enjoy!

Okay, so I just couldn’t not post my other two kids. They are equally awesome and beautiful…I think!

Maria got word that Gap was having a Casting Call for kids. It didn’t take her long to find some jeans and create a cute outfit.

Every day  we have voted for her. Even little brother is excited about this and keeps asking how many votes she has.

I have explained to Maria that there are many many girls that are dreaming of this, like her. I do know she would make an excellent model though. She has always loved modeling for me. Her face is just beautiful!

Here is the photo she wanted to enter. Good Luck Baby!

Not me…ha ha…I’m waaay too wimpy for that! Thursday was MEA and our kids didn’t have school. The weather was beautiful…low 50’s but sunny…and we wanted to spend one day on the river before putting the boat away for the winter. Something most people have already done, so we pretty much had the river to ourselves.

It also happened to be Nicholas’ birthday (nephew). His mom wanted to treat everyone with lunch right below their house, at Wildcat landing in Brownsville. My friend Heather and her three kids came along…pretty soon we were quite the crew. Nicholas’ dad, David, sister Jamie and her son Noah also joined in the fun. Nicholas’ sister-in-law, Rachel and her to boys; Christian and Roland came as well.

This family I married into are known for doing all kinds of wild things. Well, Thursday they decided that waterskiing would be fun. They are some brave souls. Nicholas went first. He would probably have gone a long ways, but realized he had forgotten a life jacket and turned around after a sweet but short trip. Sister Jamie is no wuss…and in jeans and a t-shirt!!!…jumped in the water. Not being outdone by these young kids, my husband had to have a run as well. These guys are a little crazy…which I guess makes some fun entertainment for the rest of us.

After our little skiing adventures, people had to get back to work. Some of us stayed on the river and toured up to La Crosse, WI. We docked at Riverside, right down town. First stop is ALWAYS to see Karen at Generous Earth Pottery. My husband took the kids up there earlier this summer and Karen was so sweet with the kids. They love stopping in to say Hi. She makes the most beautiful pottery with all kinds of colors. My favorites are the buttery yellow and ice green colors. I always hold my breath just a little when we’re in there. Karen has amazing pottery everywhere and I don’t want to have to buy broken stuff. We have to go by car some time soon, so we can do some shopping. A must see when you stop in La Crosse, it’s on Pearl Street.

Next stop is Pearl Ice Cream Parlor which is a really old ice cream parlor with the original interior, for the most part. They have lots of sizes for cones and more flavors than I can even remember.

What a beautiful ride!!! Here are some shots from the days events. Enjoy!

The whole gang…

Don’t mess with this fierce football team!

Nicholas celebrating his birthday…on the river…literally!

The red building in the back is where Jamie and Nicholas grew up. Talk about a great location!

Jamie stepped it up a notch…wet suit…what for?

Great job Jamie!

Crazy man himself…Matthew.

Up one more notch…starting IN the river… Brrrrrrr!

Faster!

I wasn’t ready and missed it, but right after this shot Matthew went to the edge of the boat and did a backflip into the river. Wild!

What?! No one at the beach?!

Beautiful Karen!

Until next time…

Easter is over and all the bunnies have gone home. Except for these two that were hiding in the barn with our pony. They were found when my husband cleaned out the barn, but Mamma bunny didn’t want them back, so they moved in with us. Do you think our kids were excited? Just a little!

Kamilla and Shadow, as they were named by our kids, were fed with a syringe for the first week or so. Now, they munch on grass and dandelions that are picked fresh daily.

The bunnies have grown a bit since these pictures were taken. I just couldn’t resist the bunny-in-the-shoe-shots…and then the kids came home from school and wanted to be in a couple of shots as well.

Enjoy!
